Why I Am An Atheist - Part 2

God works in mysterious ways
God works in mysterious ways
Last week I read a quote from Icelandic singer Björk that was very interesting: “I think atheists should start screaming for attention like religious folks do”.

She hit the nail right on the head. For the longest time religions have left their mark on society. No matter where you go, you always will be confronted with religion. Whether it is imams screaming from their minarets or church bells; they haunt us everywhere.

But let me focus on Christianity and more specifically the Roman Catholic Church. I was raised catholic and so I can refer to that most.

As I mentioned in the former blog, the indoctrination started at a very young age, which is very common with religions. I was even baptized the day I was born. That is how the church made sure that if I died my soul would at least go to heaven instead of hell. Yes! Even innocent babies were already prone to go to hell when not baptized. Just think about the insanity of the whole idea of it. What loving God would have an innocent baby sent to hell?

Of course, my parents sent me to a catholic school. There we soon were confronted with the ridiculous habit of priests to give us our yearly Blasius blessing. A priest holds 2 candles crosswise in front of someone’s throat and asks Blasius to protect the person from throat disorders. Even as a child I wondered “why only my throat?”

One a year we had a missionary visiting our school telling a lot of crap about the good God and in the end, of course, selling us books with exciting stories based on the old testament. We loved the stories of a talking snake, a guy who survived after he was swallowed by a whale. Many more incredible stories were there to read. This way the poison entered our minds at a very young age. What kid would NOT love that kind of story?

At a certain age, we were fully prepared to get our first holy communion. This was made a feast. A happy day. What kid would NOT like a feast?

There are lots of examples of how religion became more and more important to us. It was the most normal thing. So we went with the flow.

To me, this all has nothing to do with proper education. It is nothing more than brainwashing. In my opinion, children should be protected from this kind of indoctrination.

Sad to say that that probably never will happen. Without the process of brainwashing most kids would stay far away from any religion once they are older. Growing up I had questions sometimes about things that I could not understand. The answer I got almost always was “God works in mysterious ways”. What a killer! Of course, as a young kid, you accepted this bullshit. You could see all the inconsistencies but never got a proper answer. If that happens over and over again it becomes the common answer “God works in mysterious ways”. Unfortunately enough not too many children oppose. They just take it for granted. The poison has done its work very well.

Now I wonder, if you go to see a doctor and he has a cure but is not willing to tell you how it works because he works in mysterious ways, would you even trust him/her? I really don’t think so.

But history shows clearly enough that the Vatican never allowed people to ask questions. So scientists were the enemies of the church. The world was flat and the sun revolved around it. Period. No matter what scientists said.

I can understand that was exactly what people thought in the old days. But I can’t figure out why religious people oppressed scientists who figured out how things worked. They were tortured and killed. In the name of a loving God.

But of course, if it suits them religions don’t hesitate to use science. They use cars, airplanes, high tech sound systems and they have apps. So although they don’t like science they use it very much as long as it helps them. No, I cannot say that they are very consistent.

Speaking of being consistent: The Vatican condemns all misbehavior. For centuries they persecuted the gay community. They told people that sex before marriage was a big sin. What do we see now? But, inconsistent as they really are: Thousands of priests have sex with men and children. Just like that. Bishops and cardinals who know about this even cover those bastards.

The Vatican has paid millions to keep stories untold. The world sees it and obviously, people shrug their shoulders. Never was the Vatican brought to the International Court for being a criminal organization. Still, that is exactly what it is. Period! Religions can do whatever pleases them. And while telling us about what is bad why do they themselves misbehave? Because they know there is no heaven or hell! They know damned well they will never burn for eternity.

That, of course, they will never tell you. Religions are invented to oppress people, to have power over people. It is the oldest and proven to work perfectly well method: Create a monster and spread fear amongst people and then offer them a solution. That is why people have to be god-fearing. Meanwhile, they are laughing their asses off cause they know better.

The Vatican is a billion dollars business. With all the money they have they could stop poverty instantly yet they are always begging for money. More and more. Even poor people are willing to donate because they are promised a much better afterlife. The Vatican is happy to mislead people. If that is not a criminal act, I wonder what is. But no, the world lets them go on with their despicable actions. And what’s even more: they don’t pay taxes. Imagine that! They don’t pay taxes and yet try in uncountable ways to have influence in politics. Compared to them Trump is an angel.

In the link below you can see about the booming Vatican business.
